New Board of Trustees for the Police Endowment Fund

The Police Council, at a meeting on February 26, 2003, appointed a new Board of Trustees to manage the Police Endowment Fund (PEF) with Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, the Minister for Defence, as the chairman.

The Police Council charged the new Board of Trustees of the PEF to commit their utmost to manage the fund and come out with a full account on contributions made by the public to the fund.

The newly appointed chairman, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, assured the Police Council that he will soon draw up the required account and make it available to the public within the shortest possible time.

Dr. Addo Kufuor and the Police Council appealed to members of the public to contribute generally to the fund and assured that their contributions will be put to good use.

In a related development, the Police Council has caused a thorough investigation to be conducted into the story of the “Blackmail and the Extortion in Kosovo” that appeared on the Ghana Web Site that accused the Inspector General of Police, The Minister for the Interior and unnamed “top government officials” of extorting money from officers of the Ghana Police Service on Peace-Keeping duties in Kosovo.

A team of investigators from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was sent to Kosovo to conduct the investigations. A report submitted by the team revealed that there was no truth in the story.

The Investigation revealed further that three (3) police personnel from Ghana were involved with posting of the story on the Ghana website. The three policemen who are currently with the UN Mission in Kosovo are C/Inspector Nkrumah-Kuseh, G/Sgt. Eric Quarshie Kufoalor and D/Cpl. Michael Dei Ofei.

The statement from the Police Council has also ordered the immediate repatriation of the three policemen to Ghana for further enquiry before appropriate action is taken on their conduct.
