New army chief visits Sunyani

Sunyani (B/A) July 21, GNA – Major-General Samuel Anum Odotei, Chief of Army Staff, on Wednesday paid a maiden one-day working visit to Three Garrison, Liberation Barracks in Sunyani.

He was accompanied by Brigadier Joshua Narh Adinkrah, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Colonel R. Opoku-Adusei, Director Army Operations, and Captain Ebenezer Kwakye Agyemang, General Officer Three in-charge of Intelligence.

Major-General Odotei toured the Three Medical Reception Station, Mechanical Transport, Sewage Treatment Plant and Two Recce Squadron. He also held a durbar with Garrison junior ranks, Garrison Warrant Officers/Senior Non-Commission Officers and with Officers and paid a courtesy call on Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister.

Lieutenant-Colonel Alhassan Abu, Garrison Commander, conducted the Army Chief, who had earlier inspected a guard of honour, round the various military installations.

At the medical reception station, Dr. Laryea Odai, in-charge of the hospital briefed Major-General Odotei and mentioned faulty laboratory equipment as a major problem confronting the hospital. Inadequate spare parts and lubricants were problems of the mechanical transport section, while at the sewerage treatment plant, commissioned on March 18, last year by Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister of Defence, it was found that the main electricity-propelled machine had been shut down due to a technical fault.

Major-General Odotei promised to do everything possible to help rectify the situation in all cases.

Speaking to the Press, Major-General Odotei pledged that the Army would continue to liaise with the Press, as partners in the development of the country.

He urged journalists in the region to freely contact the military authorities at the barracks when necessary to maintain the cordial relations existing between the two partners in progress. Major-General Odotei has already visited Kumasi as part of a tour of army installations in the country and will continue to Tamale in the Northern Region.
