Netherlands PM to make historic visit

THE Netherlands Prime Minister, Mr Wim Kok, will arrive in the country on Sunday for a three-day state visit.
This will be the first visit of a Netherlands Prime Minister to Ghana, in the 300-year bilateral history between the two countries.
A statement issued by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Accra said the Dutch Minister for Development Co-operation, Ms Eveline Herfkens, will arrive in the country today, ahead of the Prime Minister.
The statement said Ms Herfkens will hold discussions with members of the Ghana Government Economic Team, and the Ministers of Food and Agriculture, Health, Education, Women’s Affairs, Economic Planning and Regional Co-operation as well as the Chief of Staff.
She will also visit the Makola Market and also meet with representatives of Ghanaian and Dutch companies, as part of the visit before travelling to Sunyani and Tamale to visit Netherlands-funded health projects.
The Prime Minister and Ms Herfkens are scheduled to meet President Kufuor and leading members of Ghana’s civil society organisations.
Prime Minister Kok will also visit a Netherlands-funded project for street girls (S. AID).
The Prime Minister will be hosted to a State Banquet on Monday as part of his visit.
