Dominebo (W/R), Aug. 31, GNA – The timely presence of journalists at Dominebo, near Asempanaeye in the Juabeso District, saved two brothers from being murdered in a nearby bush by their nephew, Kofi Nketsia.
The brothers – Kwame Asiedu, 47 and Kofi Esuofi, 45 – both farmers, were whisked away to a nearby Police station at Asempanaeye at around 1635 hours on Friday, where a formal complaint was lodged. The journalists from the Ghana News Agency, Ghanaian Times and Daily Guide, were returning from an assignment in the Bia district and on reaching an area in the Juabeso district, Asiedu, who was wearing only shorts with mud over his body, emerged from a nearby bush shouting and flagging the vehicle to stop because their lives were in danger. Soon after the vehicle stopped, Nketsiah was spotted brandishing a machete and chasing Esuofi who was finding it difficult to run. Pleas from the journalists and other passers-by to Nketsiah to leave Esuofi and put away the machete proved futile as he kept hitting the victim with his hands and legs, while Esuofi kept tumbling over. The group later freed Esuofi off Nketsiah and sent all three to the Asempanaeye Police Station.
At the police station, the two brothers reported that Nketsiah had attempted to sell a family land, located directly under a high-tension electric cable, but the two refused to support him. This, they added, infuriated Nketsiah who threatened to “deal with” them. Lance Corporal Paul Dela, who was at the Police station, said he had earlier warned Nketsiah not to sell that land since it was not safe, adding that a report had been made to the station over the issue.
