Neighbourhood watch committee to curb robbery at Beposo

The Assembly and Unit Committee Members at Beposo in the Sekyere Central District in Ashanti region are to organize Neighbourhood watch committees to curb the rampant robbery cases in the town.

Mr. Samuel Kodua, Assembly Member for Beposo East Electoral area in a press briefing on Monday, said for the past three months, there has been some reported robbery cases in the town including high-way robbery, breaking of shops, stealing cocoa beans, animals and farm produce.

He said Beposo with a population of about 7,800 have only four Police personnel in the town and it is because of this that they have decided to collaborate with the Traditional Council and the District Security Council (DISEC) to organize Neighborhood Watch Committee to provide security in the town.

Commenting on the steps of the Assembly Members, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Sakyi confirmed the concerned of the Assembly Members and said security is a shared responsibility and the police are ready to assist in the selection and training of the committee.

He said currently, there are only four police personnel in the town which is woefully inadequate, so the Neighbourhood Watch Committee will go a long way to enhance security in the town.
