Negotiations with POTAG to continue on Monday

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) on Monday agreed that their Standing Joint Negotiations Committee should reconvene on May12.

A communiqu? signed by the two parties and released in Accra on Tuesdaysaid the Committee should arrive at a decision by Friday, May 17.

Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State responsible for Tertiary Education, signed the communiqu? on behalf of the Minister while Mr Godfred Gyau Ntow signed for POTAG.

The communiqu? said POTAG, which withdrew its services on Monday, agreed to re-consider its stance at its Congress.

Academic work at the polytechnics came to a standstill on Monday when members of POTAG began a sit-down strike to back their demand for better conditions of service.

The POTAG said they would not resume work until the government met their demands.

POTAG is demanding, among other things, that as a tertiary institution the polytechnics must be placed on the same salary scale as their counterparts in the universities and other tertiary institutions.
