Need for trust between Parliament and the electorate- Speaker.

Accra, Oct.21, GNA- Mr. Peter Ala Adjetey, Speaker of Parliament on Tuesday expressed concern about suspicions and mistrust between Parliament and the electorate.

He said there should be rapport and co-operation between them to eliminate such suspicions and mistrust, adding, “the perception of the electorate on the conduct and activities of Parliamentarians contradict the functions of Parliament”.

Mr, Ala Adjetey was launching, “The Legislature in Ghana,” a 19-page monthly Newsletter for Parliament in Accra.

He called on government to provide more resources to Parliament for its effective and efficient performance.

The Speaker appealed to members to submit more articles to educate the electorate on the functions of Parliament.

Mr Kenneth Dzirasah, Second Deputy Speaker said the Newsletter, as an instrument of communication, would help the electorate to be well-informed on the work of Parliament.

Mr. Felix Owusu Agyapong, Majority Leader said the newsletter would draw attention of the House to inadequacies that required improvement. Mr Alban Bagbin, Minority Leader said the Newsletter would fill the communication vacuum that had existed in Parliament.
