Mr. Augustine Frimpong, Nkoranza Municipal Disease Control Officer, has expressed concern about the increase in maternal and infant mortality in the country.
He has, therefore, urged Community Based Surveillance Volunteers (CBSVs) to visit pregnant women at home, encourage them with their health needs and advice them to attend ante-natal clinic regularly.
Mr. Frimpong expressed the concern at a day’s workshop on Safe Motherhood organized for 60 CBSVs.
The participants were taken through causes of maternal and infant mortality, the importance of good nutrition for pregnant women and the importance of ante-natal clinics.
Madam Sakina Shaibu, Nkoranza Municipal Nutrition Officer, urged pregnant women to be concerned with their diets to improve their health.
She deplored the attitude of some pregnant women who refused to take drugs after attending antenatal clinics and risk their lives during labour.
The CBSVs appealed to government for logistics such as bicycles to facilitate their movement to health facilities to address health problems facing pregnant women.
