LINCOLN, Neb. — A new e-mail scam tells recipients that they’ve won a prize from the Nebraska Lottery/Bill Gate Foundation (spelled wrong in the e-mail), then asks for a processing fee.
Attorney General Jon Bruning Wednesday warned consumers about scam. Describing itself as a “global lottery program,” the e-mail scam tells potential victims they have been randomly selected to receive a cash prize and asks them to e-mail their name, telephone number and mailing address to a fiduciary agent. There is even a fictitious ticket number assigned to the e-mail. Once recipients provide their information, the scam then asks for bank designation information and instructs them to send a processing fee of $85 to an address in Ghana.
Bruning said there is no such arrangement between the Nebraska Lottery and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
