Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – One hundred and twenty-seven Ghanaian deportees aged between 20 years and 45 years arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on Thursday aboard an Air Libyan flight. The deportees, who looked unkempt because they had not had a bath for a long time, told the GNA that they had stayed in Libya for periods ranging from a few months to about five years.
They said they mainly travelled to Libya by foot. Kweku Sampson, 30, who worked as a mason in Libya for three years complained of maltreatment in detention in the hands of Libyan Authorities, while waiting to be flown to Ghana.
He said he hoped to make a living in Ghana after reuniting with his wife and family in Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region. Like several others, he said he had no intention to return to Libya.
Officials said the deportees would be assisted to return to their respective destinations after being screened.
