Nduom urges activists of NPP, NDC to stop the use of inflammatory language

Tamale, Sept.11, GNA – Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Flag bearer of Convention Peoples’ Party (CCP) has urged activists of National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) to avoid the use of inflammatory language in their campaigns.

He said: “The resort to talking tough and trading of accusations and intimidation by activists of the two political parties against each another is not a sign of healthy political competition and could have dire consequences for the upcoming general elections”. Dr Nduom urged Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Flag bearer of NPP and Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Flag bearer of NDC, to visit the North and impress upon their supporters on the need to conduct their political campaigns with decorum.

He made the call when addressing a press conference in Tamale on Thursday after visiting Gushiegu, scene of the recent political violence between supporters of NDC and NPP. Dr Nduom also visited Savelugu in Savelugu/Nanton District and Pusiga in Upper East Region.

In Tamale, he visited the Central and Anbarriya Mosques where he presented food items to the Muslim communities for their Ramadan and requested for prayers from the Imams for peace in the country. Dr Nduom noted that the language used by some leading members and activists of NPP and NDC was not the best as it had the tendency to incite the youth to violence. He said after visiting Gushiegu and seeing the level of destruction of property and loss of lives, “I am shocked and worried as this kind of political violence has not been associated with our previous elections”.
