Nduom rejected Rawlings and Mills’ offer to be running mate

A Communications team member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Charles Owusu, claims the party’s founder and leader, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, once refused to accept a position of high authority in the erstwhile Rawlings-led administration.

According to him, ex-President Jerry John Rawlings had wanted to select Dr. Nduom as his running mate. He, however, pointed out that, unlike other politicians, Dr. Nduom, was not ready to serve under a party whose philosophies are parallel to his ideology, and thus rejected the offer.

Speaking on Adom FM, the PPP communicator advocated the need for political parties to discard the penchant of always thinking of the next elections rather than improving the lives of the citizenry.

“Dr. Nduom will not think about the next election. He [Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom] was offered on a silver platter to be the running mate for Jerry John Rawlings [former president] but he rejected that. Not running mate alone, when Kwesi Botwe resigned, he [Dr. Nduom] was the first person called on to replace him,” he said.
