… Nana Konadu presidential bid in the gutters

…sacked for negligence, incompetence and recklessness

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings yesterday had her long nested presidential ambition thrown into the gutters by a disqualification by the Electoral Commission from contesting the 2012 presidential elections.

Her disqualification was a result of negligence and recklessness for failing to properly fill out her nomination forms and has been caught by the deadline for submission of nomination forms.

Owusu Bempah who presented the forms on behalf of the NDP led by former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was told that there were some blank spaces in their forms which had to be sorted out before it could be accepted but it appears, the NDP could not satisfy the EC’s rules.

Principal Public Relations Officer of the EC, Sylvia Annor, who confirmed the disqualification, disclosed that there were major errors on the NDP’s forms and since the party cannot rectify the errors and meet the deadline, they have been disqualified.

This means Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings will not contest the December Presidential elections.

Meanwhile, the nomination forms of the Ghana Freedom Party, led by another female presidential aspirant, Akua Donkor, have also been rejected by the EC.

This latest development means no woman flagbearer will be able to contest for the upcoming December polls.

In a related development, eight political parties and an independent candidate to contest the presidential race in the December 7 elections, have been cleared by the EC.

The parties which have received the green light to be in the race are the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), United Front Party (UFP) and the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP).

Others are the Convention People’s Party (CPP), People’s National Convention (PNC) and an independent candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah.
