NDP is party for the future – Rawlings

Jeremiah John Rawlings, former president of the Republic of Ghana, on Wednesday reiterated his faith in the National Democratic Party describing it as the party of the future.

According to the former ruler, the NDP which has as its flag bearer his wife, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, has the “qualities, the ingredient that the others [political parties] don’t have.”

The NDP has sued the Electoral Commission at the Accra Fast Track High Court after giving the Commission a 24-hour ultimatum to qualify its flagbearer, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, to contest the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The party was earlier disqualified from participating in the elections due to it’s’ inability to satisfy the requirements of the EC as portions of its nominations forms were not completely filled.

But addressing the Freedom Power Lecture on Wednesday, Mr. Rawlings stated that “I am not even talking in favour of the most noble woman here and her party that they are attempting to disqualify. I want to assure her that even if it doesn’t work this time, her party has the qualities, the integrity, that others will come back to; what the others don’t have.”

“For me, I see this party as the party of the future. That is not to say that she should give up. This woman never gives up. A lot of them in the NDC [National Democratic Congress] know the role she played.”
