NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Weija-Gbawe gives to Muslims

The National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Weija-Gbawe Obuobia Darko-Opoku has donated food items to the Muslim community in the constituency.

The donation was to help the community organise what she described as “one of the memorable Eid al-Fitr celebrations” which was observed on Wednesday.

She visited over 26 Mosques in the Weija-Gbawe constituency to make separate donations on Tuesday.

Later in a statement to mark the day, Obuobia urged Muslims to pray for peace going into the 2016 elections.

“As we join family and friends in this “festival of the breaking of the fast”, let’s also thank Allah for bringing us this far in a country where Muslims and Christians can co-exist peacefully. Let’s uphold and cherish this peace under hardworking President John Mahama, who has been a father for all,” the former broadcaster said.

She added: “May the joy which characterizes the celebrations nationwide, unite us into a peaceful election. I’m committed to peace. I pledge to safeguard the peaceful co-existence between Muslims and Christians in Weija-Gbawe constituency.”

Obuobia, who is also a philanthropist, advised the youth in particular to be moderate in their celebration to ensure an “incident-free” day.

The Imams and Muslim leadership of the constituency who received the items expressed their gratitude to the NDC parliamentary candidate and wished her success in her bid to become the MP for the area.
