NDC Zongo Caucus tours Registration Centres

The Zongo Caucus of National Democratic Congress (NDC) is on a week nationwide tour to zongo communities to supervise the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

The tour which started on Saturday August 9 will end on the last day of the exercise and is to encourage people in the zongo communities who have attained the age of 18 years to eschew apathy and rush to the Electoral Commission (EC) registration centres to register.

Alhaji Mohammed Ashkar, Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the Caucus in a press briefing after a tour to some registration centres in Accra said the registration is the only means that would allow people to exercise their franchise in subsequent elections as patriotic citizens.

He called on supporters of the NDC to emulate the zongo caucus by going round their various communities to spread the message to enable people to register. Alhaji Ashkar caution polling agents station agents who resist the registration of some eligible voters to desist from the act.

He called on the registration officers to make clear the registration rules to polling agents. He said the EC is the only body that is mandated to received challenge forms and query the eligibility of those who wish to register.

Among the constituencies his delegation have toured so far are the Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central and Ga Central. At the Ga Central Constituency the NDC Polling Agent, Mr Don Justice Motte in an interview with Ghana News Agency said there are no challenges except low turn-up.

Other National Executives who are touring some other regions includes Alhaji Alhassan Bene, Volta Region and Alhaji S.M. Alhassan, Northern Region.
