NDC Youth opens nominations

Accra, June 9, GNA – The Youth Wing of the National Democratic Party on Thursday opened nominations for offices to be contested at its National Youth Delegates’ Conference to be held at Bolgatanga.

The positions of National Youth Organiser, 1st Deputy National Youth Organiser and 2nd Deputy National Youth Organiser would be contested at the conference tentatively scheduled for September 20 this year. The Youth conference would be held a month before the National Congress of the Party.

Mr Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser of the Party, told a press conference that interested persons should pick up and submit their nominations forms from the National and Regional Secretariats of the Party from 1st August to 30th August 2005. He said in view of this Branch, Constituency and Regional Youth Delegates’ Conferences should be completed by August 15 2005.

Mr Iddrisu said all constituency youth organizers and delegates from the accredited tertiary Institutions (TEIN) would vote at the conference. He announced the decision of the Youth Wing to seek an amendment to Article 21 of the Party’s constitution to demand the participation of young people in decision-making by ensuring that all constituency Youth Organisers had voting rights at the Party’s Congress.

Mr Iddrisu also made clear his intention to contest the position of the National Youth Organiser, saying the constitutions of the Party did not debar Members of Parliament from holding positions.
