NDC youth groups in Northern Ghana root for Spio

Following the vacant position of the Vice President after the swearing into office as President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday July 24, several interest groups within the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) continue to lobby for their preferred candidates.

The position became vacant subsequent to what has been generally described as the devastating and untimely demise of the late President John Evans Atta Fiifi Mills.

A pro NDC group calling itself the Coalition of NDC youth groups in Northern Ghana has recommended Dr. Ekow Spio-Gabrah for the Vice Presidential and if possible NDC running mate slot. At a news conference in Tamale, the group’s Secretary, Salifu Alhassan described Dr. Spio-Gabrah as the only “compromise candidate” whose endorsement could cement the fracas between the Rawlingses and the NDC leadership.

According to Salifu, Dr. Spio-Gabrah is capable of convincing the Rawlingses to join the campaign trail for a resounding victory in December. He added that his endorsement will deepen the NDC’s electoral fortune in the Central region. The Coalition however called for calm among the rank and file of the NDC as the nation mourned the death of the late President John Mills. By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah/northernghana.com
