Accra, Dec 6, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday dismissed allegations that the party would cause mayhem in the country if it loses next week’s election.
A statement issued by the Party’s Deputy Secretary, Bede Ziedeng, said the NDC had no such plans and completely dissociate itself from such claims whether from individuals or groups.
“Since the Party kick-start its campaign led by the flagbearer Prof. J.E.A Mills, affectionately called ‘asomdwehene’, it has conducted it affairs in a peaceful manner,” the statement.
It added that it was unthinkable for anyone to think that a Party that had conducted its activities in a peaceful manner and is at the threshold of winning an election will plan mayhem.
“The Party’s insistence is that the election be free and fair, and free from fear,” the statement said, adding that in the unlikely event where the NDC does not win, it will concede defeat as it did in the 2000 election.
It gave the assurance that the party would continue to remain calm, as it had done under past and current provocation and threats in almost all the constituencies.
The statement said since the NDC went into opposition in January 2001, it had conducted itself and its business in an extremely humane atmosphere and that it held two peaceful mass demonstrations tagged the ‘Match for Survival’ and the ‘Kafo Didi’ in Accra and Kumasi without any incident.
