NDC urges patience for EC to declare results

Accra, Dec. 9, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday noted that results from over 80 constituencies were yet to be certified by the Electoral Commission (EC) and called for patience for the Commission to do its work.

“As a nation, this situation should urge us to wait patiently for the Electoral Commission to do its work properly as required by law,” the NDC said in a statement signed by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Deputy General Secretary.

The statement said since Wednesday, they had witnessed a situation in which different figures had been put out by sections of the media and political parties.

“For instance, an indication of an over 60 per cent win for President Kufuor early yesterday (Wednesday) dropped to the lower 50s and continues to drop.”

On figures the Party released at a press conference on Wednesday night, Mr Ziedeng said the NDC had established that of all the figures they mentioned, only the Ejisu-Juaben results had been certified by the EC.

“From the certified results of the Electoral Commission, we realise that some of the figures were inaccurate. We regret this situation,” it said.

“In respect of the Old Tafo and Dormaa East constituencies that we referred to, there are no certified results from the Electoral Commission.

“It is clear, therefore, that we must all, including the media, wait for the certified results from the Electoral Commission.”
