The NDC UK & Ireland Chapter officially launched the National Democratic Congress 2012 Manifesto in the UK in a grand style last Saturday. The event which took place at the High Cross United Reform Church Halls in Tottenham, London, N15 4BN was attended by a large section of the NDC party supporters, branch members and party faithfuls from all walks of life in the UK.
The special guest of honour for the occasion was Her Excellency, Mrs Elizabeth Nicol, Ghana’s Deputy High Commissioner to UK. In a speech preceding to the launch of the NDC 2012 Manifesto in the UK, H.E.Mrs Nicol advised NDC members and supporters in the Diaspora to eschew their differences and remain focused.
She said “There is a lot of propaganda in the air, it can easily make you disappointed but this is the time to stand firm” She advised members to do away with politics of insults but campaign on issues and not to attack personalities.
Prior to the launch of the NDC 2012 Manifesto, H.E. Mrs Nicol charged NDC supporters in the UK and Ireland to go and spread the good news on the great achievements made so far by the NDC Government under the Better Ghana Agenda Programmes. She said “The NDC as a party is on the right track, it is doing the right thing, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama is moving Ghana in the right direction and that everything in the NDC 2012 Manifesto is achievable” H.E. Mrs Nicol said she was of the view that if NDC members campaign on the issues, the NDC would definitely be retained in power.
H.E. Mrs Elizabeth Nicol officially launched the NDC 2012 Manifesto amidst pomp and pageantry, occasionally interrupted with the NDC anthem. Copies of the Manifesto were auctioned to raise funds to support the work of the Public Relations Team.
There were solidarity messages from Branch members.
Ahaji Abbas Mensah a member of the NDC UK & Ireland Chapter was also a speaker for the occasion. In a moving speech characteristic of Alhaji Abbas’ sense of humour, he gave a brief political history of Ghana. He took the audience through the processes of how the President Mahama’s favourite political slogan, “Chooo!!!! Boi !!!” came about.
Members of the Chapter’s Public Relations Team took turns to explain in brief, aspects of the Manifesto based on the four thematic areas.
The event ended with a raffle.
Reverend Gilbert Amartey gave the closing prayers.
