NDC to probe alleged attempt to influence top member to defect

Accra, Nov. 2, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) said on Wednesday that it has set up a three-member committee to investigate allegations that the National Women Organiser, Ms Frances Asiam tried to influence a senior member to defect to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Committee chaired by Mr Kwaku Baah, a National Vice Chairman, would investigate allegations made by Mr Nii Lantey Vanderpuye of the Odododiodoo Constituency that Ms Asiam tried to influence him to defect to the NPP when he was alleged to have been involved in some electoral malpractice during the 2004 voter registration exercise and was being tried at the court.

A statement signed by Mr Bede Ziedeng, Acting General Secretary, said the decision to set up the Committee was taken at a meeting of the Functional Executive Committee on November 1.

The Committee is to submit its report within one week.

“The FEC views the allegations as very serious and have the potential of negatively affecting the morale and psychology of the rank and file of the Party and, therefore, need to be thoroughly investigated to establish the veracity of the allegation.”
