NDC to lose votes in Volta region in 2012-Volta Pressure Group

Juapong Dec 21 (Kanyi), GNA-Volta Youth Network, a pressure group, Wednesday said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) risked losing significant votes in the Volta Region in the 2012 elections.

Mr Mathias Johnson President of the Network made the prediction when he spoke to journalists after a two-hour demonstration at Juapong.

The demonstration was meant to prompt the government to revive the Volta Star Textiles, formerly Juapong Textiles Limited, construct the Adidome/Juapong road and make Juapong the capital of the new district carved out of the North-Tongu District recently.

He said people in the Volta Region were tired of “empty promises and politics of deceit” and would therefore vote against the party or boycott the elections.

Mr Johnson said the four traditional areas in Juapong-Dofor, Volo, Torgormer and Fodzoku were disenchanted with the inability of government to fulfill promises made to them.

“The days when Voltarians go to the polls to vote for NDC colours are over”, he said.

Mr Kafui Mensah, Ketu-South Coordinator of the Network, said people in the Volta Region were disenchanted by the government’s assertion that it had no money for the Eastern Corridor Road “but has enough money to dole out to others”.

Some of the placards said, “President Mills you have disappointed us” and “This better Ghana is very bitter at Juapong”.

A big banner with the inscription “no district no vote” was hoisted in the town.

The demonstration started in a low key but picked up with many youth joining after they re-assured themselves that the demonstration was not illegal.
