NDC supporters threaten to vote skirt and blouse

Some supporters of the NDC in the Lower Manya constituency have threatened to vote in a ‘skirt’ and ‘blouse ‘style if the incumbent MP is not replaced. In the constituency, ‘Skirt’ and ‘blouse’ is used to mean that they will vote for Prof. Mills as president and vote for Mrs. Dedo Dufie as their member of Parliament.

According to them, the party has been divided into two camps though they went through primary to elect their candidate.

They observed that the MP’s faction does not want to work with another faction called ‘No Problem’ which they said was creating a lot of problem for the party in the area.

Explaining their reason, they claimed their MP, Hon. Nyaunu has been elected to parliament twice and has not done much apart from the three market sheds he supported in constructing at Agomanya, Odumase and Kpongunor.

Also, they claimed that he does not have good relations with the chiefs and elders of the area, which will make it very difficult for them to win this time.

The Chronicle sources hinted that a lot of NDC members have defected to the NPP because of their reservations about the MP just after the parliamentary primary.

It was learnt that, the primary was held on August 6, 2004 where the incumbent MP Mr. Nyaunu defeated Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh Angmor by 181 votes to 26 votes.

The Chronicle picked up that after the primary, some strong supporters of the NDC displayed a banner with the inscription “vote for Atta Mills vote for Dedo” skirt and blouse style.

According to the source, since August 6 there has not been any proper party organization whiles the NPP is taking its campaign messages to every corner of the constituency to win more votes.

“Krobos want a change. If a new parliamentary candidate was chosen for NDC it would have created a lot of problems for NPP” the source held.

But since the same face “Nyaunu” is going back for the third time almost half of the NDC supporters have fallen to Dedo, an NPP hinted.

Meanwhile, the NPP supporters in the area have promised that come December 2004, the government will see success in the constituency for the first time in history.

The promise was given by Mr. Demah Narh the former NPP aspirant who spoke to The Chronicle at Odumase recently. He observed that politics in the Krobo area “will go on well in the area”.

Mr. Demah Narh noted that the NPP campaign been encouraging so far and hoped that this would bring a new atmosphere of change from the NDC to the NPP.
