It has emerged that brother of the former president, Ibrahim Mahama, bought 58 percent of the country’s bauxite concession just after the NDC lost power in 2016.
This revelation, made by the special economic advisor to the vice president, Godwin Boako, indicates that the minerals concession deal between the erstwhile Mahama administration and Ibrahim Mahama could be the cause of challenges faced in Ghana’s minerals sector.
Bawumia’s special advisor makes the claim that the “National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no business cautioning the NPP administration against leveraging Ghana’s natural resources, specifically bauxite through its recent partnership with China” , an argument which stemmed out of the recent credit facility Bawumia secured in China.
Speaking on the sidelines of the political debate on Citi FM, former minister in charge of lands and natural resources, Inusah Fuseini, cautioned government against the mining of Bauxite since he posits that it could jeopardize the Atiwa forest reserve and other natural resources at Kyebi .
Meanwhile, the claim made by the special advisor, Godwin Boako, if true could see government some investigations into the deal , a development which could result in yet another judgment debt situation.
