The National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party says he has gathered information that the ruling National Democratic Congress is secretly recruiting foot soldiers into the security services.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday September 7, Mr Obetsebi Lamptey said he was told on Monday that some people within the NDC have started recruiting foot soldiers of the party without going through the proper process.
Jake Obetsebi Lamptey however said he is yet to confirm the information to ascertain its actual truth.
“I had a story yesterday which I am yet to confirm that currently, as we sit here, there are some moves by some people to recruit quietly a host of NDC foot soldiers into the security services”.
The former Tourism Minister also alleged that the ruling NDC had deliberately dismissed people who enrolled in the NYEP under the erstwhile NPP administration.
However, a Deputy Minister of Information, James Agyenim Boateng has dismissed the allegations by the NPP National Chairman describing them as irresponsible and unfortunate.
James Agyenim Boateng charged Jake Obetsebi Lamptey to be responsible enough to substantiate his allegations to make the political atmosphere healthier.
“Jake Obetsebi Lamptey is not only a National Chairman but also a Minister of State for eight years and he would do himself a lot of good by being a little more responsible in communicating issues that he can prove. Here is a man who comes on your network and says this is what he has heard and he is yet to verify and he goes ahead and put falsehood in the Public domain that people are being secretly recruited into security; forces that is completely unacceptable”
“The truth of the matter is that no such thing is going on, if Jake Obetsebi Lamptey has any such information he should do Ghanaians some good and put the information out there publicly…he is hurting his own reputation. There is no truth that somebody has been sacked from the National Youth Programme, this is a deliberate and vile propaganda which is being championed by Jake and his people”
“The NYEP is a stop gap measure, we are not sacking people from their jobs, we have said that we do not want to continue the cycle of vengeance and the cycle that resources are pumped into other projects because it was started by a particular administration”.
