The ranks of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ave-Avenor Constituency remains intact despite the current litigation over the conduct of the January 21, 2012 primaries at Akatsi.
That congress picked Mr Doe Adjaho, First Deputy Speaker and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area by acclamation, as Mr Evans Gadeto Djikinu, Lawyer, and the only other candidate, was disqualified on technical grounds.
Mr James Gunu, Secretary of the Friends of Doe Adjaho, (FODA) speaking to the Ghana News Agency, in an interview in Ho, said the widespread media reports of the issue was only because of its topicality and not a reflection of the depth of the supposed dissent.
He said the Party in the constituency remained focused and that the party structures were functional and planning towards the coming elections.
Mr Gunu said it was not out of place for Mr Djikunu to contest the outcome of the primaries, as it was a right nobody could take from him, just as it was the duty of the supporters of Mr Adjaho to continually engage the media to explain the dynamics of politics in the Ave-Avenor constituency.
He observed that there exist a deep correlation between socio-economic development of the constituency and its politics.
Mr Gunu said 20 years of massive infrastructural and human development had crystallized into a near sweeping attachment to Mr Adjaho, MP for the area since 1992, who is seen as the propeller of these developments.
He said this scenario explains the massive support for Mr Adjaho against other candidates in political contests in the constituency.
Chiefs of Ave-Avenor traditional areas and Akatsi District Council of Chiefs (ADCC), in collaboration with the Akatsi District Assembly, recently organized a durbar at Akatsi to honour Mr Adjaho for his contribution to the area.
Togbe Aklime Adifu IV, acting President of the ADCC told that durbar that Mr Adjaho was a role model, who during his successive five terms as MP for the area, sponsored “over 500 students through their second cycle and tertiary education, facilitated the construction of numerous classroom blocks, dormitories; not to mention the ICT centres and the library he put up for the Akatsi community”.
Togbe Adifu said Mr Adjaho helped to “extend electricity to almost every town, village and community in the Ave-Avenor Constituency, as well as bringing in an NGO, Lifetime Well, to the district permanently to provide potable water for the communities”.**
