The parliamentary primary of the NDC in Akwatia in the Eastern region has been put on hold following an advice from the national security.
It is unclear the basis for the move but a statement signed by the Eastern regional secretary of the party Kevor Mark-Oliver said they are working closely with the national security to “ address the issue”.
“Though very regrettable, we are pleading with all party members, supporters and sympathizers to remain calm as the regional and national security secretariat works assiduously around the clock to address the issue,” the statement noted.
It however added that voting will take place in the remaining 32 constituencies in the region.
About two million members of the ruling National Democratic Congress are today, Saturday November 21, going to the polls to elect their presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2016 elections.
The voting is being held in 274 out of the 275 constituencies across the country. It will be done in 8,234 polling centers across board.
This is the first time the umbrella family is voting with a biometric register with a newly adopted universal suffrage pattern of election.
A total of 728 aspirants are contesting in today’s primaries with 74 of them being women.
