NDC Pooh-poohs Nana Addo’s Meeting With Volta Chiefs

A Deputy Information Minister has pooh-poohed Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party’s meeting with members of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.

The NPP Flagbearer, on Friday, met with traditional rulers and some chiefs from the Volta Region and reiterated his commitment to a peaceful election this year. He also gave the assurance that his campaign will focus on national issues and not be based on violence or tribalism.

“I want to state here with all the emphasis at my command that I do not have any ethnic agenda and I would not condone any such agenda,” he told the chiefs.

But speaking in an interview on the Citi Eye Witness News, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa sneered at Nana Addo’s commitment to peace saying he only danced around the subject. He pointed out that the NPP Presidential candidate cannot eat his cake and have it, adding that he (Nana Addo) did not condemn the ethnocentric comments against Ewes and Gas made by the Assin North MP, Kennedy Agyepong.

“What is clear is that Nana Akufo Addo wants to eat his cake and have it. He is refusing to condemn the most despicable appalling statement made by a politician in this country. In the same breath, he wants to assure the people of the Volta region and this nation that he is not for ethnic division and the politics of ethnicity. How can you achieve both? How can you eat your cake and have it? Nana Akufo Addo does not want the obvious repercussions of the statement of Kennedy Agyepong which is rallying all other ethnic groups against the NPP…They are seeing the consequences but they want to eat their cake and have it…” Okudjeto said.

The aspiring NDC Parliamentary candidate for the North Tongu constituency stressed that the NPP flagbearer must choose between Kennedy Agyepong and the people of this country.

“… and clearly they have chosen Kennedy Agyepong; who they have declared a hero and (their) Jesus Christ. They have chosen Kennedy Agyepong and they will live with the consequences of his statement…,” he vowed.
