NDC polls: Case against Kofi Adams withdrawn

Yaw Osei Gyamfi, the applicant who filed a suit at the Accra High court, Monday, seeking to block Kofi Adams from contesting for the National Organiser slot in the upcoming national executive elections of the ruling party has, withdrawn the case, Starr FM’s Wilberforce Asare reports from court.

A lawyer for the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Cudjoe, who confirmed the development to Asare, “ the applicant withdrew the case this morning without liberties to reapply”.

The development means the deputy general secretary of the NDC can go ahead and contest in Saturday’s elections in Kumasi

Lawyer for the plaintiff Bright Oppong Manu, had earlier said Adams breached certain portions of the party’s constitution and thus not qualified to vie for a national executive position.

Adams was suspended in 2012 after a voice believed to be his, was heard on a leaked secret tape vowing to do anything possible to prevent President John Mills (late) from securing a second term.

But speaking to Joy FM Monday evening, Mr. Adams dismissed the suit against him saying it is a deliberate attempt by his opponents, who feel threatened by his strength, to derail his ambitions.

According to him, he was never suspended from the party but was only asked to step aside for an investigation to take place, after which he was cleared and reinstated.

“I think it is the joke of the country; I was never suspended as a punishment, and it is high time people who claim to be lawyers advised themselves and advised their clients”.
