NDC polling agents trained on elections procedures

Accra, Aug. 26, GNA – The Ablekuma Central Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), last Saturday organised a day’s training programme for about 100 polling agents to deepen their knowledge on voting and electoral processes.

The programme, to be replicated in all the five wards in the constituency, also aimed at building the capacity of the agents on the roles and duties of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the electoral officers, who would preside over the elections. The polling agents were taken through the processes of preparing and approving electoral materials as well as procedures to ensure that the EC polling station officers were equipped for the success of this year’s elections.

Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, NDC parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma Central, told the Ghana News Agency that he was only interested in working to ensure that credible elections were held by the EC in the constituency to deepen Ghana’s democracy.

He urged the party agents and supporters to eschew violence at the polling centres and rather report to the EC officials any anomaly that might arose during the election on December 7, 2008. He expressed the hope that the EC would not give excuses of shortage of materials and late arrival to some polling stations in an attempt to disenfranchise eligible voters.

Mr Chaie asked party agents and activists to ensure that all eligible voters in the Ablekuma Central fulfilled their civic responsibilities by voting during the forthcoming election. Mr Mawuko Amedume, NDC Ward Chairman for Abossey Okai, who facilitated the training, advised members and party faithful not to be deceived by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) propaganda being circulated against the NDC and eschew acts that would tarnish the image of the party. He asked the party agents to be vigilant and reject candidates, who would offer money and other enticements to them on Election Day.
