The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is planning for another demonstration in the Volta Region at the end of this month. It will be the third demonstration that the NDC has held this year, to protest what it describes as the harsh economic conditions in the country.
The NDC held its second successful march on Tuesday in the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi. A statement signed by the Party’s Deputy General Secretary, Bede Ziedeng on Friday expressed its appreciation to various stakeholders for their diverse roles in ensuring the success of its “Kafo Didi” march in Kumasi last Tuesday.
It commended the Inspector General of Police, Nana Owusu-Nsiah; Ashanti Regional Police Commander and officers and men of the Police Service for the professional manner in which they handled the demonstration.
The party also expressed its gratitude to the media for the publicity and coverage.
The NDC, however, said it was disappointed at GTV’s inability to air the event during the late news broadcast on Tuesday, after it had carried it in its 1900 hours news broadcast.
There was also appreciation for the “teeming supporters” of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, sympathisers from other political parties as well as residents of the Kumasi Metropolis.
The statement thanked the Ashanti Regional and constituency executives of the Party for the efficient planning and execution of the protest march.
“The participation of thousands of Ghanaians in the peaceful protest March was ample testimony to the fact that the goodwill enjoyed by the Kufuor government is over, as things have turned bizarre for Ghanaians after only two-and-a-half years of NPP misrule, which has subjected them to harrowing economic hardships.”
The statement quoted the flag bearer of the NDC, Professor John Evans Atta Mills as expressing the hope that President John Agyekum Kufuor would listen to the voices of Ghanaians and re-package economic policies, as well as investigate allegations of corruption in his government.
The party assured Ghanaians that it was putting its acts together for a bigger offensive against the worsening economic conditions in the coming months.
