NDC organiser supports Kotoka cocaine probe

Yaw Boateng Gyan, National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has backed calls for President John Dramani Mahama to set up a commission of inquiry to investigate how a ‘drug baron’ won the contract to provide security at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Solomon Adelaquaye, Head of Sohin Security Company, was the security chief at the country’s international airport until his arrest in the United States of America a couple of days ago for importation of heroin.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), which made the call over the weekend, said such investigation should cover all other security services of the company at the airport.

Speaking in an interview with Hello Fm in Kumasi yesterday, the NDC National Organizer backed calls for a probe.

Mr. Boateng Gyan said President Mahama should set up a body to investigate the mystery surrounding the award of the security contract at KIA to promote the interest of Ghanaians, asserting that the NPP’s call was in order.

He, however, bemoaned the politicisation of the arrest of Solomon Adelaquaye, asking Ghanaians, particularly the NPP members, not to politicize the matter.

According to him, the fight against the drug menace requires concerted effort by all Ghanaians.

The NPP stated that the alleged drug baron was to import 3,000 kilograms of cocaine into Ghana from the USA, and subsequently export them to Asia after helping to ship heroin into the United States.

The development, the party noted, had reinforced the notion that the country was increasingly becoming the hub for the drug trade.

The NPP said Adelaquaye’s security company was awarded the contract largely because of its association with the NDC rather than competence and expertise of the company.
