The minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament has asked that its spokesperson on Communication be allowed the right to a rejoinder on Television stations that aired tapes of former President Rawlings’ recent visit to Bimbilla in the Northern Region. This is to clarify what the NDC Members of Parliament describe as unfounded allegations against the former President during the campaign for the by-election in Bimbilla.
It had been reported that Mr. Rawlings made statements to incite the two main ethnic groups – the Kokumbas and Nanumbas against each other.
But a statement signed by the Deputy Minority Leader, I. K. Adjei Mensah said a comprehensive review of the videotapes of the former President’s visit revealed that the allegation of inciting violence was unfounded. Rather the former President, according to the NDC called for unity amongst the people in the region.
The minority intends to make copies of the videotape available to the National Media Commission, civil society groups, the Ghana Journalists Association and Diplomatic Corps to erase the erroneous impression that the former President went to Bimbilla to incite the ethnic groups.
