NDC members dominate GFA – Vanderpuye told

An executive member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nii Komietey Doku, has rejected claims by former Youth and Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye that members of the Ghana Football Association rejoiced over the defeat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The GFA was alleged to be against the NDC government, a situation believed to have influenced the general mood of its members after the declaration of election results by the Electoral Commission.

Speaking in an interview with Class91.3FM’s Moro Awudu on the Executive Breakfast Show last week, Mr Vanderpuye had said of the GFA leadership: “Is that why they popped champagne at the GFA Secretariat when NDC lost the elections? …They popped champagne and played music. I have the evidence on video, I have the video. They saw me as a problem but I am not a problem. I was fighting in the interest of mother Ghana.”

However, reacting to this assertion in an interview with Class91.3FM’s Emefa Apawu on Thursday February 9, Mr Doku said: “It is not true that we popped champagne after the NDC lost. He said he had video evidence, then let him go and play it on GTV so that the whole country will see it.

“Practically there are more NDC people in the GFA than NPP and in the GFA we don’t play politics. We are called the rainbow party because it’s a mixture of all the parties in the country here, we don’t play politics. If the NDC lost, they lost because of why they should lose, but I don’t want to go into that.”
