NDC man alleges politics of discrimination in Agona East

Mankrong-Junction, Nov 13, GNA – Alhaji Gyabiru Ibrahim, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Agona East constituency, has appealed to the National Executive of the party to resolve the “politics of discrimination and tribalism in the constituency.”

He said the delay in solving the problem could affect the growth and welfare of the party in the area.

Speaking at a news conference, Alhaji Gyabiru said as a true and paid up member of NDC there was no law which banned him from contesting top any position in the Agona East constituency.

He said the pressure that came from the top hierarchy of the party to step down for the incumbent chairman should be put to rest. Alhaji Gyabiru contested the chairmanship position and lost to Mr Jonathan Kwame Abban, the incumbent, in the last week’s constituency election.

Alhaji Gyabiru said this was the second time the party executives had asked him not to contest the position of chairman, adding that in the last election he opted to vie for the constituency chairman, but some top officials of the party told him to step down for the incumbent. He expressed worry about the violence that erupted after the election and said there was a remote cause and appealed to the National Executives to investigate and settle the issue once and for all.

Alhaji Gyabiru said the NDC was a peaceful and democratic party and nothing should be done to drive away people who had love and sympathy for the party.

He expressed the hope that the National Executives would resolve the matter amicably to ensure peace and stability before 2012 election. 13 Nov 09
