Disqualified Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyaman-Rawlings, has reportedly stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) no longer has the moral authority to govern Ghana.
She has therefore, vowed to do all it takes to oust the NDC administration when given the opportunity to participate in the December 7 polls.
The former first lady said this in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA) regarding her disqualification from the contest by the Electoral Commission (EC).
It would be recalled that the EC disqualified 12 presidential aspirants, including PPP’s Dr. Nduom; APC, Hassan Ayariga and Nana Konadu from contesting in this year’s election for allegedly violating the presidential nomination process.
Nana Konadu who is challenging the EC’s decision in court, accused the ruling NDC in the interview of masterminding her disqualification.
She explained, “It is clear at this point that the Electoral Commission is being manipulated by the ruling party to fight its wars….
“This is because they know that if my name appears on the ballot paper, they can’t win simply, because they have lost the goodwill of the people of Ghana and have no moral authority to lead this nation anymore.”
Nana Konadu reiterated her disappointment with the manner in which the EC went about the nomination process, saying the commission “should have given our party and myself an opportunity by law for us to correct the said error. This they did not do.”
Touching on the incompetence of President Mahama’s NDC government, the NDP leader said emphatically that “This country, Ghana, needs a leadership that cares for its citizens.”
She added “… a leadership that is bold in its fight against corruption, a leadership that has proven strength in putting Ghana and Ghanaians first and indeed, I am running for president because I know that I am that leader and my track record is really acting in the best interest of my nation; and is there for all to see. So, my work with women to the youth to the various development projects, I have always done what is best for Ghana and for Ghanaians.”
