(Joy Online) — The largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress, NDC is planning to take to the streets to protest the fifty per cent increase in the price of petroleum products.
The party has described the increases as unwarranted saying that it sees the increase as an exploitation of the ordinary Ghanaian.
The Minister of Finance, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, last Friday announced a 50 per cent increment in the prices of petroleum products with a corresponding 30 per cent increase in transportation fares.
Some sections of the general public have reacted angrily to the increases saying they are unfair.
Speaking to Joy New, the ranking member on communications, Haruna Iddrisu, said the party is in discussions with a pressure group known as ?Action Against Hardship? to demonstrate on the streets against the increases in response to the cries of the masses that are not happy about the increases.
?We as a party are concerned about the impact of this fuel price increases on the general living standards of Ghanaians and we consider series of actions and the we will join other civil society groups such as Action Against Hardship to consider some other actions which may manifest itself on the streets and we are considering nationwide action to begin from Tamale, Bolga, Kumasi and Accra to protest the ridiculous price increases and its effects on the poor average Ghanaian?he said?.
No date has as yet been set for the action and the discussions are yet to reveal whether the action would be nationwide or just in the capital.
