NDC hierarchy urged to make peace with defectors

Kumasi, March 25, GNA – An activist of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has appealed to the Party’s leadership and rank and file to evolve practical strategies to woo disgruntled members back to their fold.

Mr. J.S. Boarle, Asawasi Constituency Secretary of the NDC, who made the appeal, said wooing back defectors would boost the NDC’s zeal to win the 2008 elections.

He made the appealed in a statement in Kumasi on Saturday. “Winning elections depends on the number of members and sympathisers of a party but not merely how popular it is, hence we need to not only maintain those still within the party but also make conscious efforts to bring back those who have left,” Mr Boarle said. He said it was time for the leadership to cease blaming people for deserting the Party. Rather, they should seek a more mutual means of resolving their grievances.

The Constituency Secretary said notwithstanding the departure of some members from the party, the NDC would win the 2008 elections. However, such a feat would not be achieved on a silver platter. “It can only be achieved through sweat and hard work,” he added. He entreated members not to be discouraged but be more focused in their campaigning.

Mr. Boarle asked the leadership of the NDC to give equal opportunities to candidates who would be contesting the Party’s presidential race.

“The lessons of the Koforidua congress should guide us into creating a level playing field for all contestants in order to avoid any chaotic situation,” he added.
