NDC Group urges Mahama to resolve FDA/Tobinco saga

A group calling itself the Concern National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on President John Dramani Mahama, to resolve the impasse between the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Tobinco Pharmaceutical company.

It said the deadlock had created disaffection for the party.

Mr Mohammed Hudu, Spokesperson for the group made this known in Tamale in a statement copied to Ghana News Agency at the weekend.

“Even though FDA may be acting in the interest of public health without any personal vindictiveness, we think the regulator must soften its stands in the best interest of business development and by extension reducing the ever growing unemployment in the country,” the statement said.

It said for a company like Tobinco to layoff more than 600 workers as claimed by its Financial Controller was a setback to Ghana’s quest to reduce unemployment and has an implication for the NDC in 2016 general election.

It commended on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health for stepping into the on-going wrangling and its resolve to undertake enquiry into the matter.

The statement appealed to the Committee to expedite action and bring the matter to a close.

It urged the new boss of the FDA Mr Hudu Muktar to bring on board a new style of leadership that would lead to the amicable resolution of the impasse between the regulator and the importer.
