NDC fans allegedly stone, water-bomb Akufo-Addo

Some supporters of the two major parties: NDC and NPP, hooted at each other’s flag bearer at Manhyia Junction in Kumasi as President John Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo made their way to the Asantehene’s palace on Thursday to mark the one-week death celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s mother.

Class91.3FM’s regional correspondent Hafiz Tijani reported that NDC supporters also hurled stones and sachet water at the convoy of Nana Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the police had to call for reinforcement to ensure there were no clashes between the two sides. The NDC’s Deputy Ashanti regional Secretary Mr Kwame Zu, however, denied that NDC supporters pelted Mr Akufo-Addo’s convoy with stones and bags of water. He told Emefa Apawu on Class91.3FM’s 505 news programme that there was no way supporters of the NDC would desecrate the memory of the late queen mother by hurling stones and water bags at Nana Akufo-Addo’s convoy.

The Kumasi Traditional Council on Thursday, 24 November, performed the one-week rites for late Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, who was the 13th Asante queen and died at the age of 111. She reigned for 39 years.

Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II was the pillar of strength and source of wisdom behind the transformational reign of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

In accordance with Asante custom, a ban has been placed on all funerals, drumming and noisemaking throughout Asanteman until after the funeral of the late Asantehemaa.
