NDC disowns Manly-Spain

The Greater Accra Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it does not recognise any individual in the party bearing the name Henry Manly-Spain.

A statement signed by Mr Anthony Nukpenu, the Deputy Regional Organiser of the party, said even though Manly-Spain had been holding himself as a member of the NDC, records available to the party did not support it.

“The Greater Accra Secretariat of NDC will like to put on record that it has no record of any person called Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, because we do not know which ward, branch and constituency he belongs to and which position he holds in the party,” it said.

The statement also expressed shock at the comment purported to have been made by Manly-Spain that it was through his efforts that the NDC won the Greater Accra Region.

It described such comments as false, fraudulent and preposterous as it contained no iota of truth.

According to the statement, the effort to win the 2012 elections by the party in the Region was made possible by the regional executives and its caucus, constituency and the Zongo caucus, and wondered why any individual could claim such honour.

“The various caucus worked tirelessly from the registration of voters, training of polling agents and mounting of platforms and nowhere was the self-styled financier of the party found,” it said.

It said the good performance by the regional executives ensured that the Greater Accra Region contributed 125,000 votes to the 325,000 votes obtained by the NDC to defeat the New Patriotic Party and it also won 20 parliamentary seats out of 34.

The statement commended all NDC members in the region for their hardwork and urged them to ignore any comments that might come from Manly-Spain as the party did not recognise him as one of its members.
