The executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Adansi Asokwa constituency of the Ashanti region say there has been no defection from the NDC fold as being put out in the media domain.
According to a press statement issued and signed by the Ashanti regional secretary of the NDC,Mr. Joseph Yammin, Hon. K.T Hammond, Member of Parliament for the area has been trying to instigate some members of the NDC to announce their defection from the ruling party. The statement accuses the MP of trying to lure the NDC supporters with an amount of GH¢600.00.
According to the press statement, three NDC members who work at the cocoa station at Fumso in the Adansi Asokwa constituency were agitating for the removal of the station officer and his assistant who were appointed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because of allegations of discrimination they leveled against them. According to the group led by one Muntala, the station officer and his assistant should be sacked because “when the NPP took over the administration of the state in 2001, they maltreated and sacked the station Officer then”.
The Muntala –led NDC members after several complaints to various people in authority decided to embark on a demonstration. Hon. K.T Hammond on hearing of the agitations decided to take advantage of the situation and is alleged to have given the NDC men an amount of GH¢600.00 to encourage them announce their defection from the ruling NDC.
The statement is urging the teaming supporters of the NDC to remain calm since there has been no defection whatsoever.
“What Hon. K.T. Hammond knows is that, he is not returning to parliament after 2012 and for that matter has resorted to causing “fear and panic” among our rank and file. But we can assure him that INSHA ALLAH, he will fail”, the statement says.
“Indeed, it would even be very strange for our members to defect to the NPP in a constituency that we are likely to win in 2012. In fact, the NDC is WINNING the ADANSI ASOKWA Constituency come 2012; NPP – 14,670 votes, NDC – 10,634 (credit: Electoral Commission – 2008 elections)”.
