The national delegates congress of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which was scheduled for December 28, this year has been postponed to the end of April next year. A statement from the party says the National Executive Committee changed the date to afford the party time to resolve outstanding issues and concerns brought to its attention.
Among the issues raised was the possible breaching of the party’s own constitution, which stipulates a two-week interval between constituency, regional and national elections if it goes ahead to hold the congress this December. Regional elections have still not been completed and from all indications, the two-week time lapse would not have been achieved before the delegates congress.
Prior to the issuing of the statement, there had been media speculations that the congress might be postponed since one of the two alleged factions in the party feared that Dr Obed Asamoah will win the Chairmanship position if the congress is held this year.
