NDC congratulates Muslims on Eid

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday congratulated Muslims for successfully going through the month of prayer and fasting and wished them a happy Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration.

In an official statement issued in Accra, the NDC said the month-long dedication and commitment to seek the face of Allah had been of immense benefit not only to Muslims but to Ghanaians and the world as a whole.

“The party commends Muslims or their sacrifices to fast and pray not for any selfish cause but for peace, stability and spiritual development of mankind.”

The statement said the recognition of Muslims as an important segment in the wheel of national development necessitated the then NDC government to institute two national public holidays to mark the two important events on the Muslim calendar 96 Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul Adha.

“We are of the view that the existing harmony that exists among the major faiths in the country that Ghana has known over the years would be strengthened and sustained in the interest of the nation.”

The NDC said it remained committed to this social and moral contract with Ghanaian Muslims and Muslims in general and looked forward to deepening the existing cordial relationship.

“The NDC as a party and the ruling government will not shirk their responsibility to explore new areas of furthering the cause of Islam in Ghana and assisting to develop the full potential of our Muslim brothers and sisters,” the statement.
