NDC condemns Kuffour and NPP supporters …

….for victory celebration while NDC supporters heckle Journalists at NDC Hqts

The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Issifu Ali, has called on Supporters of the NDC to defend themselves within legal context of the law in the event of attacks from supporters of opposition parties.

He also condemned the alleged declaration of victory by the Flag-bearer of NPP, Mr J A Kuffuor ahead of the National Electoral Commission. At a Press-Conference called today, Alhaji Issifu Ali said, the Party has already written to the National Electoral Commission on the matter and awaiting its response.

The N D C, also abhorred the conduct of some Private radio and Television Stations in giving the N P P the platform to broadcast its so-called Victory.

Meanwhile, a three-member Crew of T V-3 who had been assigned to cover a press conference at the N D C headquarters were attacked by angry party supporters. The supporters engaged the television Crew in scuffle in a bid to seize and destroy a Television Camera and accused them of being N P P supporters.

The crew led by Mr Gabriel Bosompem, a Broadcast Journalist, were taking back-ground shots of pockets of people who had gathered at the Party head-quarters in wait of the scheduled press-conference, when they were set upon.

But for the timely intervention of the party’s’ Propaganda secretary, Mr J A Quaynor- Mettle and the General–secretary, Alhaji Huudu Yahyah, it would have been a different story.

The Television crew, was also prevented from leaving the Party yard to join their waiting Mini-Bus. While senior Party Members tried to console the TV-Crew, they were informed that the driver of the TV-3 crew had also been picked up by a group of Party Supporters and severely beaten on suspicion that he was a Spy for the N P P.

His NOKIA mobile phone was also stolen during the attack. Senior Party officials obviously embarrassed by the two incidents, rushed downstairs to sort out the matter.
