NDC apologizes to Journalists

Kumasi, Sept. 9, GNA – The leadership of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region, has expressed deep regret over the alleged physical assault on two broadcast journalists by some irate supporters of the party at Asante-Effiduase on Wednesday, September 8.

A statement signed by Mr Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, the Regional Chairman described the incident as 93unfortunate and deeply regrettable.”

It said 93we sincerely and unreservedly apologize to the gentlemen for what happened.”

The party re-affirmed its determination to build a strong relationship with the media to protect and grow the country’s democracy.

Kwabena Afrifa of Sekyere FM, a local radio station at Effiduase, and Kofi Adade, a reporter of a Kumasi-based Fox FM, were said to have been roughed up during violent clashes between two groups of NDC supporters at Effiduase.

One of the groups is demanding that the Sekyere-East District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Kwadwo Addae, should be removed from office while the other gives strong backing to him.
