The two main political parties NDC and NPP have denied any involvement in recent clashes between two Islamic sects in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Tuffuor told XYZ News some political parties are fueling the clashes between the Al-Sunnah and Tijaniya sects.
On Sunday the two Muslim sects clashed over disparities in the interpretation of the Holy Quran.
There were renewed clashes characterized by gunshots on Monday night.
But NPP Secretary for the Northern region, Dr Clifford Brimah, speaking to XYZ News said the NPP cannot be blamed because it has nothing to gain.
“As a political party that does not benefit from any conflict we always think that there should be peace in the region. We would be the last to foment trouble so far as our people are concerned. We are not aware that our party is involved”.
On his part, the NDC Propaganda Secretary for the North region, Abdul Moomeen Alhassan challenged the police to be specific and name the political parties fueling the clashes.
“The regional police command has what it takes to do their investigation and establish who is behind but for the NDC we don’t have any information as to who is behind it. So if they know that political parties are behind then they should come out with their findings”.
