NDC activists calls for national debate on strikes

Mr Anthony Gyampo, Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for a national debate on the nature and timing of industrial actions.

He said even though workers’ embark on strike to demand their rights as permitted by law, it should not end up endangering lives.

Mr Gyampo made the call in an interaction with media personnel in Koforidua.

He cited the recent industrial action by medical practitioners, explaining that their withdrawal of emergency services caused the death of many people.

Mr Gyampo said it was also inappropriate for teachers to go on strike when students were writing exams.

He appealed to the National Labour Commission to be proactive and ensure the implementation of the labour laws on industrial actions to ensure sanity.
