NDC activist arrested for slashing NPP supporter with a cutlass

Agona Nyakrom, C/R, Nov 30, GNA- A 26-year-old activist of the National Democratic Congress, George Acquah has been arrested by the Police at Agona Nyakrom for allegedly slashing Mr Yaw Attah, a supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with cutlass, after a misunderstanding. Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of Nyakrom District, H.H. Afful told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nyakrom on Monday that the incident happened after the Agona West Constituency of the NPP, had organised a Keep Fit exercise as part of the Party’s electioneering campaign.

He said Acquah disclosed in a caution statement that the victim accused him of stealing his father’s cocoa beans.

DSP Afful said the suspect would be put before court, after the Police had completed their investigations.

He appealed to supporters of the political parties not to see themselves as enemies, but as people with a common destiny. DSP Afful said the Police would not tolerate any political violence before, during and after Election 2004. 30 Nov. 04
